Doula Philosophy

A birth doula provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a laboring woman. A doula has specialized training and experience to meet a woman's needs before, during, and after childbirth.

Practical benefits of doula support include lower rates of intervention such as medication use to induce, augment, or manage pain during labor, the use of forceps or vacuum during delivery, or cesarean birth. Mothers who have doula support tend to have shorter labors, fewer complications, and a smoother transition into motherhood. They are also more likely to be satisfied with their birth experience overall.

I believe that feeling supported is key to a positive birth experience. As a doula I will fully support you and your choices during your birthing time. I will utilize comfort measures such as breathing and relaxation techniques, massage/touch, and various labor positions.

I will not make decisions for you or pass judgment on the choices that you make, but I can assist you in understanding your options and making informed decisions. I do not replace your partner, other support persons, or your health care provider. I do not perform clinical tasks or manage your labor in any way. I will work as a positive addition to your birth team to aid you in achieving the birth that you desire.

Pregnancy and childbirth is one of the most significant journeys a woman will take, and I thank you for considering me to accompany you during this time.
